Year 2 term 2 overview - parent letter.
Children in need day:
On the 17th November we had a fun packed day and dressed up to raise money for children in need.
Anti-bullying week:
During Anti-bullying week we discussed what bullying was and what we can do to help stop it. We talked about our school values and chose to focus on compassion to make kites. Below are pictures of the kites we made that link to phases that describe the different  elements of compassion, also the power point and video clip we shared.

Class Assembly:

 

For our class assembly we told everyone about 'The Great Fire of London'. We acted out where the fire started in Pudding Lane bakery, danced, sang, pretended to be news readers, shared facts and read a poem.

English:
We have been learning about 'The Great Fire of London' and exploring non-fiction texts.

In science we have been exploring different materials. We have been thinking about whether something is plastic or not and the properties of different materials. We also made goo and slime!

Math:
In maths we have using jottings to subtract 2-digit numbers.
We made bread practicing how to measure liquid using milliliters(ml) and weighing using grams (g).

The 'Power of Reading text' - Orion and the Dark

Year 2 term 1 overview - parent letter.

South Foreland Lighthouse:

On the 5th October we had a fantastic trip to South Foreland Lighthouse in Dover. We did lots of activities and learnt lots about lighthouses. 
Trip to the beach:
We had a trip to beach one morning and found lots of interesting things. We also drew on pebbles and hid them so we could try to find them next time we visited.

English:

We have been exploring the story 'Orion and the Dark',  predicting what might happen and thinking about how characters feel. 
We have thought about the different words that we could use for scared and then order them on the stairs to show how Orion felt when he went up to bed.

We used drama to explore how Orion felt and what Dark might say when they met each other.

Maths:

We have been practising how to partition 2-digit numbers.
We rolled a 10s and a 1s dice to make two 2-digit numbers. After this we used the more than and  less than signs to compare the numbers.

History:

Science:

We have been thinking about how we can tell when something is living, when something has never been alive and when something is no longer alive.

Art/DT:

We have created some amazing images of what we think dark looks like. We drew on black paper with chalk, pastels and white pencils.

We have also been having lots of fun designing and building our very own lighthouses! Firstly we researched different lighthouses and what they looked like, then we wrote a plan thinking about what materials we could use before making it with the help of a work partner.

Religious Education:

We have been learning about the different parables Jesus told and thinking about why he might have told them.
