Welcome to Term 4
We kept visiting the chicks who were in Dragonfly Class. WOW! The chicks grew so fast. There were 10 eggs and nine hatched...Three girls and six boys.
The chicks were going back to the farm so we went to see them one last time.
Shrove Tuesday is a Christian festival to mark the start of Lent. Lent is a period of about six weeks when Christians are meant to give up luxuries or unnecessary things. Lent ends on Maundy Thursday, the day before Good Friday.
Traditionally, Shrove Tuesday is associated with pancakes being eaten. This was the last chance to eat rich foods before Lent, and an opportunity to use up all of the luxury foods (such as fat, butter and eggs – which pancakes are made of) which might go off during Lent.
Clever Cooks make Pancakes!
In preparation for World Book Day, we brought in our favourite books.
World Book Day
We were very brave and went into the Key Stage One assembly. We learnt about “Forgiveness” with Oscar the Owl. At the end we stood up and showed off our Book Day costumes to all the other children! It was fun seeing our older brothers and sisters and friends.
Look at our gorgeous outfits…
Emilia won a prize for her outfit and so did Mrs. Jordan. Well done to them both!
(Mrs. Jordan was really kind and shared her prize with the nursery…it was chocolate!!!)
Meet this week's Tidy Inspectors.
More busy work we’ve done this week…
Great writers in Pebbles!
I decided to write my own class register. I copied the names from my friend’s name cards.
We practised writing the number 3 after watching Ten Town. It was quite tricky but fun to try!
We like working on our construction site.
We enjoyed dressing up, using the tools and creating interesting structures.
Write dance to ‘stick’ music.
Write Dance is all about handwriting using music, movement and exercise. It helps children feel happy and comfortable with their bodies.
Finding out how to use different programmes on the computer, tablet and interactive white board.
Dragonfly Class have ten eggs in an incubator. We went to see some of the chicks hatch.
Songs and Rhymes
“All the Fish are Swimming”
“Gonna Build a House”
Practising our cutting skills with scissors.
Assembling a circuit with the large blocks was fun!
We had to make sure it was safe to walk on.
We are very good at helping our friends!
The Tidy Inspector makes sure our nursery is tidy at the end of the session.
It’s the end of term 3 and, WOW, what a busy last week of term we had…
Shadow Play: Finding out that shadows are just areas where light has been blocked.
The sun came out so we could practise making shadows on the garden wall and ground!
Taking Flight and making Paper Planes:
Air pressure—air pushing against you and everything around you all the time—is what keeps planes and birds in the sky. The air under the wing is slower moving and has higher pressure. The high pressure is what pushes the wing up and keeps birds and planes in the air.
We held a competition to see whose plane travelled the furthest.
Sound Vibrations: All sounds are made by vibrations in the air. The vibrations reach your ear and make your eardrum vibrate. This is what makes you able to hear sounds. The vibrating string makes the cup vibrate too, which makes the sound louder.
HELICOPTERS AND GRAVITY
The shape of the helicopter rotor blades make it spin when dropped from a height. Gravity pulls the helicopter down. The air resists the movement and pushes up each rotor separately, causing the helicopter to spin.
We decided to go into the Reception classes’ garden to challenge our helicopter models some more...
What a great week of
scientific enquiry and reasoning!
Our Early Learning outcomes:
Comments and asks questions. Can talk about some of the things they have observed. Talks about why things happen and how things work. Understands that different media can be combined to create new effects.
Safer Internet Day
Tuesday 7 February 2017
Watching a short film with Red and Murphy about viewing videos online, we thought and talked about what we should do before we watch videos on YouTube and what we should do if we saw something upsetting online? https://www.saferinternet.org.uk/safer-internet-day/2017/sid-tv/films-5-7-year-olds
We found out that it is VERY important to ASK a grown up before we go online. We talked about how important it is to tell a grown up if we ever saw something we didn’t like online.
Introducing our new wicker house:
Sharing a favourite book together.
We set up our own theatre, all by ourselves, and invited an audience. We put on our own show.
(Music from the film “Frozen” is playing in the background!)
How authentic is this…programmes were handed out to all the audience!!!

The Power of Reading
Writing a poem about sticks…
We looked at sticks and, using our senses, described what we could see, feel, smell and hear (we didn’t want to taste our sticks, although some of us tried!) We also thought about what we could use a stick for. We wrote and drew our ideas and our teachers scribed for us.
(by Pebbles and Butterfly class)
“Eggs in the pan e-e-e” …
enjoying practising the letter sound ’e’.
Pebbles hospital is open for business!
These Theatre Royal, Margate, Panto programmes are SO interesting.
We listened to some Stick Drum music and created our own rhythms and beats. We experimented with different ways of moving, using gross motor movements.
Clever Cooks make Hummus Dip to eat with their Twiglets.

Don’t we look stunning?!
Having fun finding out about the letter sound ‘o’.

We looked at the sticks we had found on our recent ‘Stick Hunt’ and described what they looked like, felt like, smelt like and sounded like.
Fantastic construction with our new wooden building blocks!!!
Ok, it’s snowing, but I can still practise balancing on stilts!
Baby changing session!!!
Power of Reading fun!
Reading all about Stanley’s Stick...
We went on a ‘stick hunt’.
We found long sticks, short sticks, fat sticks, thin sticks, thick sticks, heavy sticks, light sticks, some that weighed the same as each other, some that were hard to lift or we had to balance them in our arms to carry them!
Making models out of the sticks we found on our ‘stick hunt’.
