Today we have been writing up some of our news reports. We have been reporting on an event from our book where the Moon Man grabs onto the fiery tail of a comet and crashes down to earth!
Some of us have been writing our reports, some planning thier television news report and Sonny 'hacked' (re-programmed) the BBC website! (fear not - we used an editing tool and did not change the BBC news website for the whole world!)
We only have 4 class laptops - and therefore we were not all able to have a go at using a newspaper template that Mr. Gillies had made...So if you would like to do some at home I have attached the Word documents below. (I haven't tried to open these on a tablet so am unsure if they will work - they should be fine on a laptop)
Pictures will be updated soon!
Today (15.01.2018) we have been conducting experiments with light; in particular, reflecting light using mirrors!
Mr. Gillies' Lego Star Wars characters made an escape from the top of his whiteboard...and it was hard to recapture them with no light due to our 'power cut' and all of the objects in the way. So the class had to use torches and mirrors to illuminate the escapees.
Here are their rather awesome results...
The only way to fully get into character is to become the character - we fully embraced this afternoon! In our quest for mastery at asking OPEN questions, we had volunteers become the character in our current text: Moon Man by Tomi Ungerer.
Welcome back to Sparrow class - 2018!
Today we have been looking at the moon and building a word bank of adjectives to describe its appearance. Then we tried to create our own pictures. Using black card as the background, we flicked white paint to create the illusion of stars. then we cut out circles of thick card and painted one side and used them to print a moon onto our page! The Paintings are currently drying; therefore I will have to wait before adding any pictures of them on here. However, here are a couple of pictures of our creative moments!
Whilst coming up with suggestions for our word bank of moon adjectives, Zachary offered a wonderful description: Dusty surface.
I instantly thought it sounded like it should be the name of an American country singer...So I bring you.... DUSTY SURFACE!!! :D
Hello and welcome to the Sparrow Class Webpage!
This is a place where the children can share with you their wonderful work, creativity and experiences throughout the year. Check back regularly for updates.
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!
On Friday (1.12.17) we attempted to create our own rocks to bury fossils into. It was a 'never-before-tested' method and we are still awaiting the results today (06.12.17) as they are STILL drying!
The children crushed up dried pasta, added a PVA glue and water solution and then pressed shells into the mix...
Today ( 15.11.2017) we have been looking at Bible stories and how they relate to Jesus. We created a Jesse Tree decorated with images of bible stories
What do you think?
We have been practicing our DT skills progressions today and using the imperative verbs that we used in English last week.
We have made a fruit salad!
Everyone has had a go at peeling, chopping, slicing, grating and mixing!
Here are some pictures of us in action...
Our first outing!
On Monday we visited our local Tesco Extra store at Westwood Cross and Our guide for the day was the lovely Sue. We engaged in a multitude of tasks from finding different coloured fruit and vegetables, to having hands on lessons about fish, cheese tasting and a sneaky peek behind the scenes! (This also meant experiencing how cold their giant, room sized freezers were...VERY COLD!)
Here are some pictures from our day:
