Hello and welcome to the Sparrow Class Webpage!
This is a place where the children can share with you their wonderful work, creativity and experiences throughout the year. Check back regularly for updates.
Here are the pictures from our Church visit..all of the trees were wonderful...but I think ours was the best! Mr G
Today (05.12.17) we created our own United Kingdom! Mr Gillies made a massive map of the UK and split it into A3 pieces...Here we are trying to create it in the school gym!
Great job Sparrows.
On Friday (1.12.17) we attempted to create our own rocks to bury fossils into. It was a 'never-before-tested' method and we are still awaiting the results today (06.12.17) as they are STILL drying!
The children crushed up dried pasta, added a PVA glue and water solution and then pressed shells into the mix...
This week we are finishing our Stone Age jewellery. We moulded clay into balls, barrels and teeth and then made holes through them with a piece of dowling! Once they were dry we painted them! All we need to do now is to thread our string though :)
Here they are so far...
This morning (28.11.2017) we performed nine of the lines from our current text! After analysing the lines so that they were fully understood, the children had the opportunity to perform their line however they wished! I must say...I thought it was brilliant, therefore I videoed it from two different perspectives for you to enjoy :)
Our fantastic performance 'The Tin Forest'
Today ( 15.11.2017) we have been looking at Bible stories and how they relate to Jesus. We created a Jesse Tree decorated with images of bible stories
What do you think?
We have done some 'hot seating' today in the role of the old man in our current book. We were practicing using 'open questions'. To help us get into character - we used Mr Gillies' moustaches! Here are some pics and videos!
Prefixes: Today we have been looking at the prefixes super, auto and anti. Billy came up with a magnificent slogan when anti-wrinkle cream was mentioned...something that had us in stitches and we had to record to show you all! I think Billy would be very successful working in advertising!
This is how we imagine our characters dream to be:
We have been practicing our DT skills progressions today and using the imperative verbs that we used in English last week.
We have made a fruit salad!
Everyone has had a go at peeling, chopping, slicing, grating and mixing!
Here are some pictures of us in action...
Our first outing!
On Monday we visited our local Tesco Extra store at Westwood Cross and Our guide for the day was the lovely Sue. We engaged in a multitude of tasks from finding different coloured fruit and vegetables, to having hands on lessons about fish, cheese tasting and a sneaky peek behind the scenes! (This also meant experiencing how cold their giant, room sized freezers were...VERY COLD!)
Here are some pictures from our day:
Some lucky Sparrows had a Virtual Reality 360 experience... diving with SHARKS to help with their writing next week :)
Here is our recital of a poem called 'Eat Your Veg' by Valerie Bloom. This links in with our English text called Gregory Cool.
We felt very lucky to be able to welcome some Japanese visitors into Sparrow class on Wednesday (20.09.2017). It was very interesting for us all to learn some Japanese words and learn how to play a traditional Japanese card game called Karuta! Here are some snaps!
