Welcome to Otter class, we have been busy settling into Year Two. Here are some of the exciting things that we have been doing.
Morning work- When we arrive at school, we are encouraged to put our things away, change our reading books, hand in any letters and then get busy with some jobs. Our jobs change every day so that we get a chance to do everything.

Science- This term we are looking at animals and how they are suited to their habitats. We can tell if something is living or non-living.
We have been exploring how to make the "best" bread for Samuel Pepys.
Power Of Reading- We have been exploring the text "Orion and the dark". When looking at the book, we have discussed characters and made our own puppets. This has helped us pretend to be those characters and imagine how they think and feel.

First Class@Maths- Some of Otter class are doing some extra work in maths. This helps us with our understanding of numbers and it is great fun.
Maths- We enjoy applying the skills we have learnt to solving problems. Every week we do Hotshots which is timed mental arithmetic. We enjoy using practical resources to solve number sentences.
Phonics- We enjoy phonics and we do it every single day! We practise spelling words correctly, blending and segmenting sounds so that we build words. We use nonsense and normal words to practise these skills.
Guided Reading- We do Guided Reading every single day. One group works with Mrs Johnson where we explore a text. Another group works with Mrs Galbraith so that we can develop our comprehension skills. The other groups do a variety of different activities.
Phonic and word games
Chatham Dockyards- On Tuesday 22nd September 2015, Otter class travelled to Chatham Dockyards. We had lots of different topics where we found out how to make rope, about a famous heroin Grace Darling and how to make a boat that floats! It was a super yet rainy day.
South Foreland Lighthouse- On Wednesday 30th September 2015, Otter class went to Dover and saw the lighthouse. We pretended to be lighthouse workers, draw the lighthouse, look inside the lighthouse, follow a trail and fly kites! It was an action packed day but we thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
Fire Station visit- We went to Margate fire station where we found out how fire fighters do their jobs and about the equipment that they use.
Drama Workshop- We had a visitor in called Ian. He helped us to act out the story of the Great Fire Of London.
R.E- We have been looking at Hinduism and Christianity in R.E, we have made some Rangoli patterns and Diwali lamps.
Classroom displays- Here are some pictures of our classroom.
English- We followed instructions to fight a fire. Then we wrote them and delivered them to the fire station so that new fire fighters knew how to tackle fires.
Assembly- For our class assembly we did a mixture of acting, dancing, speaking and singing. We did our assembly on our topic "Seaside".
