This term we were so lucky to be invited to 'The Theatre Royal' to watch 'Babe'. It was amazing!
Design and Technology:
We made our own treasure chests and pirates.
In science we explored materials. We made boats from different materials and tested which was the best using marbles. We also tested what material would be best to stop chocolate from melting.
Our assembly on 'Pirates' was great fun!

'Power of Reading' - Lila and the secret of rain.
Our working wall for 'Lila and the secret of rain'. We made our own books and wrote poems.
We researched Africa using websites and books before writing our own fact files.
After we had learnt about the hot continent of Africa we compared it to the cold continent of Antarctica and read the book 'The penguin who wanted to find out'. This book was all about a cute penguin called Otto who kept asking questions and we learnt lots about Antarctica from him. We wrote fact files on penguins and retold Otto's story.
Safer Internet Day:
On Tuesday 7th February we took part in Safer Internet Day. To help us understand how to stay safe online we read a story all about Smartie the Penguin, who was given a new tablet for his birthday, and needed help with lots of different things. We then wrote our own film strips before acting out our stories about staying safe online. Please take a look at our films about keeping safe online.
If you would like to share this story again visit Childnet.com/resources/smartie-the-penguin , or look at the powerpoint, bellow, that we shared together.
Design and Technology:
We really enjoyed making small worlds to show the story of 'Lila and the secret of rain'.
We have designed and made our own penguins using socks. We used rice and stuffing to fill old socks, cut out felt flippers, beaks, tummies and feet. We then finished them with a snazzy hat and scarf to keep them warm. We were amazed at how well they turned out and cant wait to take them home!
We have learnt about the parables of; The Good Samaritan, The lost sheep, The lost coin, The Great Feast and The talents. We thought about why Jesus might of told them.
History and Geography:
We have been learning about Captain Scott's exploration and had a visit from Ian (KIC theatre).
We have been looking at plants and what happens when plants have too much or not enough water. We planted three pots of cress seeds and gave one of them no water, one of them a little water and the other one lots of water.
Science Day (Super Heroes):
For Science day we worked with the other year 2 class and both year 5 classes. Our teachers mixed us all up and put us into four groups called, Super Heroes, Bat Heros, Spider Heroes and Captain America Heroes. Then in our group we visited each class during the day and explored different science activities. We made slime, made a circuit, made an explosion and found out about friction.

'Power of Reading' - The Sweetest Song
After we read 'The Sweetest Song' story we made puppets and acted out the story before drawing a story map and writing our own version of the story.
