Welcome to Fox class. We hope you enjoy looking at all the exiting things we have done and how busy we have been.
First thing in the morning once we have changed our reading books, we get busy with clever hands work and practise our cutting, pencil control, keyboard and fine motor skills.

Power of reading:
We have tried different fruits and vegetables from Africa.
The Easter Bunny came to visit us.
We also made some delicious cakes!
DT and Art:
For an art competition we did some printing by cutting out shapes and then using rollers with paint.
We made African animals in DT.
Ian from KIC theatre came to visit us and helped us act out different books from Roald Dahl.
We dressed up as our favourite characters.
Topic - 'Poles apart'
The Power of Reading text - 'Lila and the secret of rain'
Power of reading:
After reading 'Lila and the secret of rain' we made story maps to retell the story.
We also wrote poems to say thank you for the rain.
We did an experiment to see whether it mattered how much water plants received.
We were very lucky to have some visitors from a galaxy far .... far away.
Our challenge was to see what material was best to make an X-wing fly the furthest.
A lady also came and did some workshops with us.
DT and Art:
We used marbles and elastic bands to tie dye fabric.
Our Olafs were made using socks, rice and stuffing.
Using water colours we painted pictures of Emperor penguins.
For our assembly we retold the story of 'The Great Fire of London'.

The Power of Reading text - 'The story tree'
Power of reading:
In maths we have been working with money.
We have also been practising our measuring skills by making bread and measuring our height and feet.
Following instruction - 'How to be a fire-fighter'
Fire station visit:
Our visit to Margate fire station was amazing! We got to dress up in real fireman outfits, go in a fire engine and spray the fire hose!
Ian from KIC theatre visited us and helped us act out what it must have been like during 'The Great Fire of London'.

Design and Technology:
We have made Tudor houses using cereal boxes and paper mache. Then we painted them white before adding beams and windows.
Topic - 'She sells seashells'
The Power of Reading text - 'Orion and the dark'
The Power of Reading:
We have been exploring the text 'Orion and the Dark'. We have used drama and puppets to help us understand how the characters feel.
As Orion went up the stairs to bed we thought about how scared he would be and used different words to add to each stair as he became more and more scared.
We have been practising how to make 2-digit numbers.
Mrs Goldhawk got us thinking with a maths puzzle called 'One big triangle'.
This term we have been learning about animals and their habitats.
We have sorted living and non-living things.
When we learnt about food chains we played a game. Searching for people in our food chain and getting in the correct order.
We have also been learning about electricity and how to make a circuit.
We looked very carefully at different shells before drawing and using water colours to paint them.
We have been comparing Victorian holidays to holidays today.
Chatham Dockyards Trip:
On Tuesday 22nd September Fox class visited Chatham Dockyards.
First we went on a submarine called the 'Ocelot'.
Then we looked at the different materials boats are made from and what makes them float.
After that we looked at lots of different lifeboats and learnt about a famous lady called Grace Darling.
Finally we visited the Ropery and made our own class skipping rope!
South Foreland Lighthouse:
On Thursday 1st October we went to St Margarets bay near Dover to look around the lighthouse.
First we looked around the lighthouse and climbed all the 73 steps to the very top!
To become lighthouse apprentices we had to clean windows and fish for our tea. Then we drew some fantastic lighthouse pictures.
Before we had lunch we rolled down the hill.
We watched brave teddy come down the escape rope.
Before going home we had a wonderful time flying kites.
Working with a partner we have been researching sea creatures and making information posters.
We read and followed instructions of 'How to make a sandwich' before writing our own instructions. They were delicious!
