New to HTSJ for September 2026, we have introduced Spelling Shed for years 1- 6.

We are excited to introduce Spelling Shed, a research-based scheme designed to help your child improve their spelling skills. Spelling Shed is a fun, game-based platform that we are using in school to support our spelling curriculum.

What is Spelling Shed?
Spelling Shed is an online platform and scheme of work that uses games and activities to help children learn multiple methods for approaching spelling. This means teaching strategies rather than simply memorising words. It’s designed to be engaging and motivating, helping children build confidence in their spelling abilities.

Your child has been given a login to access Spelling Shed. You can find the website here:

You do not need to download the pay for app unless you wish to do so.  The website allows pupils to play and access their assigned learning/homework free of charge.

Why are we using Spelling Shed?
We believe that Spelling Shed will be a valuable resource for your child, providing them with:
• Multiple spelling strategies: Lessons use orthography, etymology, morphology and phonology when breaking down the spellings of words and focusing on spelling patterns.
• Targeted practice: Teachers assign specific spelling patterns to pupils to practise. Mastery Zone also presents spelling patterns personalised to children’s needs.
• Increased confidence: Children choose their game difficulty to build their confidence and the game platform promotes engagement and motivation.

How can you help at home?
• Encourage your child to log into Spelling Shed and play the online assignments set by their teacher each week.
• Supervise your child when they are using the internet to access Spelling Shed but do not help them with the spelling words.
• Celebrate their progress and achievements on Spelling Shed.

We believe that Spelling Shed will be a valuable tool in helping your child become a confident speller.
