Reading
Reading in year six is at the epicentre of all our curriculum learning, therefore reading at home every day is extremely important. All pupils in year six have been provided with a home reading record and the expectation is to read a minimum of 4 times a week for a period of approximately 15–20 minutes. Please sign your child's reading record every time they read as this will also earn them house points.
Pupils all have access to our online reading platform myON, and can also use this for their reading. Every time they read online, they MUST take the quiz at the end to explore their understanding.
Pupils reading physical books are encouraged to read books of interest. Every pupil has a recommended zone level of reading which is allocated based on their word reading and comprehension ability.
Physical books can be quizzed on using their Accelerated Reader unique login. All quizzes earn points and prizes and pupils are encouraged to reach one million words (or more) over the course of the year!

TTRS (Times Table Rockstars)
Pupils can enhance their multiplication tables knowledge through accessing TTRS. We recommend a minimum of 10 minutes every day for children to complete their heatmaps of fluency and speed. These are vital to all our mathematical learning across the curriculum.
Pupils will rise up the rankings with their speed and there are in-house competitions set every week to earn house points, class and individual prizes. The best part is, it's fun too!

Time Table Rockstars (TTRS) Increase your knowledge and speed to become the ultimate Rock Legend!

Water bottles and Snacks: It is important for pupils to stay hydrated and are not hungry during the school day. Whilst we have access to water in class; we would prefer pupils to bring in a water bottle of their own which is clearly labelled with their name so they may refill them as required. Please no squash or fizzy drinks - water only!
Pupils can also have a healthy snack at morning break - fruit, raisins vegetable sticks etc. No sweets or chocolate!
We are a nut free school and have pupils in the year group with nut allergies so please be vigilant with this when providing snacks and packed lunches.
Equipment: General stationery required for the children's learning will be provided, however some children prefer to bring their own. We encourage this, however it is the pupil's responsibility to keep their items safe. Pupils write in BLUE ink - handwriting pens only. Rulers must not be gel bendy rulers.

Maths Curriculum for the year (some aspects may be taught in a different order during the Spring term).

Spellings to learn and to ensure meanings are understood - these will be part of reaching the expected standard for year 6 writing.

Community - Our value of the term. We looked at maps of our local area and identified people in the community that help us and their location.
Finger Painting Portraits - As part of identity and belonging, our curriculum driver this term, we made self portraits using our unique finger prints.
Our Topic was WW2 and we had a fun afternoon to begin our project, by, looking at artefacts, cracking codes, dressing-up, creating timelines and looking at how WW2 began. Our teachers even dressed-up!
We took a visit to the Ramsgate Tunnels to find out about how these were created and adapted during WW2 to keep the communities of Ramsgate and Margate safe during the Blitz.
We had the local community hub come in and complete a Ladder of Risk with us. We spoke about the risks around various social and anti-social behaviours within the community.
We had a clay workshop with Mercedes, who helped us to create our masterpieces which are currently being fired in her studio kiln.
We also used our sewing skills to make mini bags in DT.
