At HTSJ, children learn through playing, exploring, asking questions and trying things for themselves. Our adults join in, listen carefully and support children to develop their ideas and take their thinking further. We balance this with focused teaching in phonics, early reading, writing and maths.
We use TTRS (Times Tables Rock Stars), NumBots and Spelling Shed to support our learning in a fun, interactive and engaging way. These online resources help children to practise and develop their maths and spelling skills both in school and at home.
You can access each of these platforms at home using the links below:
Within the Hive, our staff deliver individualised interventions based on each child’s EHCP outcomes, as well as responding to their individual needs and what we observe in the classroom. We use a range of sensory experiences to engage pupils and make learning meaningful, alongside a total communication approach to support every child in communicating, participating and succeeding in their learning.
Learning happens indoors, outdoors and at Woodland School, through stories, conversation, creativity and first-hand experiences. We provide children with opportunities to learn at their own pace, build confidence and develop their independence. Above all, we want every child to feel that they belong, while growing in courage, compassion and community.
Every day in the Hive is different as we adapt our learning and routines to meet the individual needs of our pupils. We provide a calm, nurturing and engaging environment where children feel safe, valued and ready to learn.
Each day, children take part in English, phonics and maths, alongside personalised interventions and EHCP-focused learning. Throughout the week, children also experience a broad and balanced curriculum, including creative, sensory, practical and topic-based learning.
We use a total communication approach throughout the day, using speech, symbols, signs, visuals and other communication methods to support every child to communicate and participate. Learning takes place indoors, outdoors and at Woodland School, giving children opportunities to develop their independence, confidence and understanding of the world around them.
We also value time for play, friendships, social opportunities and exploration, helping children to develop their communication and life skills in meaningful ways. Above all, we want every child to enjoy their time in the Hive, celebrate their achievements and grow in courage, compassion and community.
