    Parent and Carer Information Regarding

Holy Trinity & St John’s CE Primary School’s Lockdown Policy

A copy of the full Lockdown Policy can be obtained from the school office.

At Holy Trinity & St John’s CE Primary School we ensure the safety of our whole school community by having effective measures in place to deal with incidents requiring the lockdown of our school. We want you to be assured that your child’s welfare is our highest priority, and be confident that everything is in place to create a safe and secure environment for them.

Any person found on the school premises who has not followed correct visitor procedure, e.g., not registering their visit via the school office and/or not wearing a school-issued identity badge, will be politely challenged. Our school is not a public place to which anyone is entitled to have access – any person entering the school site does so at the discretion of the Headteacher.

    Procedures

Lockdown procedures should be seen as a sensible and proportionate response to any external or internal incident which has the potential to pose a threat to the safety of staff, pupils and visitors in the school.

There is regular staff health and safety training to ensure staff know exactly what to do in an emergency situation.

Role of the Parents and Carers

We ask that parents and carers support us in keeping everyone safe in school by:

    • Being aware of and complying with these procedures.
    • Expecting to be challenged if you do not follow this policy.
    • Only entering the school premises when authorised to do so.
    • Complying with school security arrangements.
    • Not roaming around the school or entering classrooms without permission.
    • Not disturbing the work of school personnel or contractors.
    • Signing in and wearing a visitor lanyard/badge/sticker when asked to do so.
    • Knowing you may be asked to leave or be banned from the school premises if you cause a disturbance or are abusive or violent in any way.

In the Event of a Lockdown

    • Information will be communicated to parents and carers via text message as soon as is possible.

    • Emergency Services will support the decision of the Headteacher regarding the timing of communication and any extra information that needs to be shared.

    • You should not come to the school unless instructed to do so. This could interfere with emergency service’s access to the school and may even put themselves and others in danger.

    • You must wait for instruction from us as to when it is safe for your child/children to be collected and where this will be from.

    • Please do not phone the school as this can tie up telephone lines that are needed for contacting emergency services.
