Welcome to Robin's Class Page!

We are really excited to start a new year and have lots of exciting things planned.

Please see our proposed yearly overview below (some things may be subject to change)

On this page you will find information, photos and children's work as the year progresses. We hope you enjoy finding out about what we have been up to!




In year 3 we need to read 4 times a week and have our Reading Recording signed by an adult.


On a Tuesday, MyMaths will be set for our Maths homework and is due in on the following Monday. Each child has their login details inside their Reading Record and letters with these details have also been sent home. If you have any problems with access please let Miss Davison know as paper copies are available each week.


Spellings will be sent home on a Wednesday and the children will be tested the following Tuesday. These will also be practiced through the week in class, however it is important that they are practiced regularly at home as well. 


Grammar will be sent home starting next week (beginning 24th September), this will be set on a Monday and due in the Friday of the same week.


Pleas support your child with their homework as they may find some tasks challenging, however if you or your child are having difficulties, do please let Miss Davison know, so that she can give extra support with this.

Class Rewards

In Robin's class we like to celebrate success and therefore have lots of wonderful rewards in place that the children can work towards. All chilren have the opportunity to gain a 'High Flyers Certificate' which is a celebration of some wonderful work/behaviour throughout the week. Two children a week will receive this. As a school we give out house points, as you may be aware of. 

Children can earn raffle tickets throughout the week that are put in to a draw and a winner is picked every Friday. The more tickets the children have, the more chance they have of winning! Children can get raffle tickets in a variety of ways such as; good behaviour, excellent effort, trying hard, making progress, engaging in the learning, being a good friend and many more! 

Finally we have 'Star of the Week' where one child a week is chosen for something spectacular and when Miss. Davison has been really impressed. They have their picture on the classroom door on a big glittery star and an explanation as to why they are star of the week so that everybody can see this and celebrate their efforts too!

Please encourage your child to work toward this so we can celebrate success and focus on the positives. Thank you.


Term 1 - Maths 

This term we will be learning about place value and addition and subtraction. We break it down into smaller steps which are: 

  • hundreds
  • representing numbers to 1,000 using resources
  • 100s, 10s and 1s
  • number lines to 1,000
  • find 1, 10 and 100 more or less than a given number
  • compare objects and numbers to 1,000
  • compare and order numbers to 1,000
  • count in 50s 
  • adding and subtracting numbers with up to 3 digits
  • estimating answers using inverse operations 

We will continue to learn and practice the times tables throughout the year so please ensure you do this at home and help your children with them. By the end of year 3 children are expected to know the 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 10 times tables. 


Below is a list of useful websites that will help your children develop and deepen their understanding of these concepts


Term 1 - English

This term we will be focusing on presentation and expectations in English. We are hoping children will be able to produce a larger piece of writing in an English lesson and that they can edit their work independently to show they are checking their work and improving it. We will be basing our learning on our Power of Reading book, 'The Tin Forest'. We will be writing in the first person, creating poetry, inferring ideas and predicting parts of the story, describing the scenery and discussing emotive language whilst thinking about the character in the story. 


The children will also have regular GPS (grammar, punctuation, spelling) lessons. This term we are learning about the different types of words. We expect the children to independently know and use correctly the following word types: adjectives, verbs, adverbs, nouns, proper nouns and pronouns. We are currently learning about these and using colours to support this. Ask your children what they have learnt so far!

Term 1 - Religious Education

In RE this term we are looking at what it is like for Christians to follow God. We will be learning about stories from the Old Testament, looking at characters such as Noah, Abraham and the prophets. We will also look at The Big Frieze and the concepts that go with this. Ask your children what they have been learning about!

Term 1 - Topic

This term our Topic is called 'Into The Forest' and we will be learning about UK forests, rain forests around the world and comparing these. We will be looking at climate, habitats, plants and animals. We will also touch upon metals and forces. 

Below are pictures of our Topic Entry Point. When the children came to school they found their classroom covered in rubbish! The children had to sit and work in it for the whole afternoon to see how it made them feel. We did this so the children could gain a valuable understanding of how the character from our Power of Reading book may feel. The children thoroughly enjoyed it and learnt a lot from it. Ask them all about it! 
Here are some pictures of the children planting their seeds to grow cress. It has grown a lot! Pictures of their cress growing will follow soon.
In Science we have been learning all about plants and their functions. We learnt about the different parts of a plant and what they do. We investigated how water is transported through plants by putting plants in water with food colouring in and recording what happened. Ask us all about it!
