Unfortunately due to the Covid-19 pandemic, schools are sadly closed for the time being. I have been so pleased with all of the wonderful work children have been emailing back to me that I wanted to share this. Below is a reel of photos, showcasing all the fabulous things you lovely lot have sent me. I hope this helps you feel a little bit closer to your friends and might even give you some ideas for things you can do too!

Term 6
Term 5

In preparation for the year four national times table test, we practice times tables everyday in year three. The children have regular paper tests and practice completing the times table test online too, as this is how it will be administered to them in year four. Below are the links to the online practice tests that we use in school to prepare children. If you are able to access these websites, it would be beneficial to encourage your child to practice regularly and develop their confidence.

Below you will find an overview of the Mathematics being taught in Year 3 for the academic year ( September 2019- July 2020).

Term 4

This terms topic is 'Flow' and the children are going to become geologists, specialising in the natural geography of rivers, seas and oceans! They will be learning all about the features of rivers, investigating water and soil samples, researching famous rivers of the world and most importantly, learning about pollution and it's impact upon our world. Below is a reel of pictures, showcasing all of the different things we have been doing.

In Maths we have been looking at measurement specifically length and perimeter. The children developed their knowledge of the different units of measure and how to add them up to find the perimeter. We discussed how we know what is the best unit of measure to use for different things. We practised our measuring skills by using rulers to measure things in the classroom. We then moved onto learning about fractions. We began by looking at unit and non-unit fractions, making a whole fraction and tenths. We then did some revision for our termly tests. During this time we covered the four operations and the methods we have learnt in the past. We will spend the rest of the term learning about fractions of amounts, fractions of shape and equivalent fractions. Below is a list of websites that you can use to support the children's learning of these topics.
In English we have been reading 'This Morning I Met a Whale' to link to our Flow topic. So far in English the children have used the story to write some amazing setting descriptions, using adjectives, adverbs, similes, metaphors and personification. Can they tell you what each feature is, can they give you an example? They have also been writing some beautiful poetry about pollution in oceans, rivers and seas. They used the same features we used for our setting descriptions, but they also used alliteration and onomatopoeia to make their poem even better. I was blown away by how amazing their writing is becoming!

Term 3

This terms topic is 'Tribal Tales' the children are travelling back in time. They will be exploring the Stoge, Bronze Age and the Iron Age. Below is a reel of pictures, showcasing all of the different things we have been doing.

In Maths we have began term three focusing on money. We were recapping and securing our knowledge of pounds and pence, adding and subtracting and money and giving change. The children used fake money to buy different items from each other, finding the best way to give the correct amount of change.

We have also been learning about statistics, focusing on using and interpreting data. The children have been busy collecting data from around the school and transferring this into tally charts, pictograms and bar charts. They have also been using the different tables to answer questions about different data. We will be covering multiplication and division of one and two digits.

Below is a list of websites that you can use to support the children's learning of these topics.

In English we will be reading 'The Stone Age Boy' to support our learning about life in prehistoric times. The first genre we will be covering is instructions. The children have been learning how to edit and correct some terrible instructions as well as writing their own instructions! We will also learning about narratives to help us in writing our own stories and finally we will be creating newspaper reports.
