Welcome to Kingfisher year 4 class
We firmly believe that all children should be encouraged to follow the school values in our mission statement and to become confident, curious, independent and resilient, life-long learners.
Misty Mountain, Winding River
The topic for this term is geography based and called Misty Mountain, Winding River.
This project teaches children about the characteristics and features of rivers and mountain ranges around the world, including understanding and learning about the process of
The Water Cycle.
We will begin by studying various non-fiction books over the term and our fiction consists of books by:-
Michael Morpurgo - This Morning I Met a Whale and Jacqueline Wilson - Cliffhanger
Maths
Fractions is the topic for maths throughout term 5.
We will also be focussing on problem solving and investigations, times tables and strategies for mental maths.
Reading
Every child should be reading for at least 15 minutes per day. They can read independently or to an adult but the activity of reading should be enjoyable!
Reading for pleasure is something that we highlight in year 4. Sometimes it is nice for you to read to your child - never think they are too old! Our children in year 4 really enjoy listening to the daily instalment of their class book.
Every time you use the on-line reading record your child will be awarded with one House Point - so it is possible for them to gain 7 HP just for reading in one week.
Our class book we are reading at the moment is - Awful Auntie by David Walliams
Homework
This is given out on Friday and if you wish you can send confirmation of what they have achieved via the class email kingfisher@htsj.school.
Please remember to use the on-line reading record to note your children's reading habits and any notes about what or how they are reading - I enjoy reading your comments!
