Mrs Chantler is a Primary School teacher and is a Forest School Association qualified Level 3 Forest School Leader.

 

We have an award winning provision in our Woodland School. In 2022 we were awarded the Bronze, Silver and Gold RSPB awards, for the work we do to look after nature.

In July 2022 we were awarded the Kent Wildlife Trust (KWT) Bronze Wildlife award.

In July 2023, right at the end of the summer term, we were awarded the Kent Wildlife Trust Gold Wildlife Award!

A FOREST SCHOOL DAY AT PARKSIDE, CANTERBURY. SOME LUCKY YEAR 2 CHILDREN SPENT THE DAY AT PARKSIDE PRIMARY SCHOOL, CANTERBURY FOR A FOREST SCHOOL FESTIVAL WITH 6 OTHER SCHOOLS.

IT'S JUNE AND THE WILDLIFE TRUSTS ARE RUNNING THEIR 30 DAYS WILD ACTIVITY PROGRAM FOR THE MONTH! HERE ARE THE ACTIVITIES FOR THE FIRST TEN DAYS OF JUNE, FOR YOU TO DO AT HOME!!

WORLD OCEANS DAY IS THE 8TH OF JUNE. THIS GLOBAL INITIATIVE IS TO ENCOURAGE ACTIONS WHICH PROTECT OUR MARINE ECOSYSYTEMS. WHAT COULD YOU DO TO HELP? PERHAPS DO A LITTER PICK ON A THANET BEACH?

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY IS THE 5TH OF JUNE. THIS INITAITIVE IS TO RAISE AWARENESS OF AND ENCOURAGE ACTIONS TO PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT. PERHAPS YOU COULD PLANT A TREE OR SHRUB IN YOUR GARDEN...

A UKRAINIAN MUD KITCHEN!! THE GIRLS MADE SOUP, GREEN TEA, ROLLS, CAKE, SUSHI AND PIZZA FOR THE TEDDIES!

ADAM FROM ROBIN CLASS DECIDED TO MAKE THE TREE HOUSE INTO A CASTLE TODAY, WITH A DUNGEON BELOW!

SCARLETT AND MADDIE MADE THIS AMAZING BREAKFAST BAR CAFE FOR THE TEDDIES TODAY!

SOME YEAR 5 CHILDREN TRIED OUT THE JAPANESE ART TECHNIQUE CALLED HAPAZOME...

WE LOVE TOADS! YEAR 1 MADE THESE TOADS USING MUD AS FINGER PAINT...

RHUBARB PIE.....PART ONE.... WE PICKED OUR RHUBARB FROM THE VEG PATCH THEN WASHED IT AND CHOPPED IT INTO SMALL PIECES. THEN WE COOKED IT WITH SOME KENTISH RASPBERRIES IN A PAN WITH SUGAR.

RHUBARB PIE ....PART 2 ....THE PROOF IS IN THE EATING!! IT WAS DELICIOUS!

SOME YEAR 6 BOYS HAD BAKED POTATOES COOKED IN THE CAMP FIRE...YUM!

WE HAVE PLANTED UP SOME BABY BEETROOT PLANTS...HOPEFULLY WE WILL GET A GOOD CROP AND CAN GIVE THEM TO THE SCHOOL COOK FOR AN ADDITIONAL SALAD VEG!

SOME YEAR 4 CHILDREN BUILT A "EUROVISION" STAGE BY THE TREE HOUSE...HERE IS THE FAMOUS ELLIOT FROM KINGFISHER REPRESENTING GREAT BRITAIN !!

LOOK OUT FOR SWIFTS FLYING HIGH IN THE SKY AND SCREECHING! FOR INFORMATION ABOUT SWIFTS PLEASE HAVE A LOOK AT THE RSPB LINK...

WHEN WE LIFTED UP A PIECE OF LOOSE BARK FROM A LARGE LOG, WE REVEALED THIS AMAZING ANT NEST AND WE WERE ABLE TO WATCH THE ANTS WHO WERE VERY BUSY CARRYING THEIR EGGS!

WE HAVE BEEN MAKING HOUSES FOR THE WOODLAND FAIRIES. THEY HAD TO HAVE 2 STOREYS AND STAIRS OR A LADDER...

THE BABY WRENS HAVE FLEDGED! HOORAY! HERE IS THE NEST THAT THEY WERE LIVING IN, WHICH WAS INSIDE THE SCARECROW.

RENESMEE ENJOYED LOOKING CLOSELY AT THIS GARDEN SNAIL AND WE TALKED ABOUT THE PATTERNED TEXTURE OF THE SNAIL'S BODY (...WHICH IS CALLED A FOOT!)

HERE ARE THE YEAR 6 SUNFLOWERS, 2 WEEKS AFTER WE PLANTED THEM. WE ARE GROWING THEM INDOORS FOR A WHILE SO THAT THE SLUGS DON'T GET AT THEM!

A SUCCESSFUL BUG HUNT ON A LOVELY SUNNY MAY AFTERNOON!

WE HAVE A WREN FAMILY NESTING INSIDE OUR SCARECROW IN THE SCHOOL GARDEN! THEY ARE BUSILY FEDING IN THE IVY THEN FLYING UP AND INSIDE THE SCARECROW!

APRIL 2024

SOME OF OUR YEAR 5 PUPILS MADE THE TREE HOUSE INTO A CAFE AND LATER THE YEAR 2 CHILDREN ENJOYED PLAYING IN IT AT LUNCH TIME, ASSISTED BY THE YEAR 4 WOODLAND LEADERS. WELL DONE ALL!

YEAR 2 HAD CLOSE UP VIEWS OF A RED ADMIRAL BUTTERFLY FLUTTERING ABOUT BY THE LABURNHAM TREE...

HERE IS OUR WILDLIFE RECORD BOARD FOR THE MONTH OF APRIL.

THE TEDDY OBSTACLE COURSE CHALLENGE! YEAR 2 HAD TO DESIGN AND MAKE AN OBSTACLE COURSE FOR ONE OF THE WOODLAND TEDDIES! THE OBSTACLES HAD TO INCLUDE SOMETHING TO GO OVER, UNDER, THROUGH AND IT ALSO HAD TO HAVE A SURPRISE AT THE END!

PLANTING UP SOME SUNFLOWER SEEDS. WE WILL LEAVE THESE TO GERMINATE INDOORS BECAUSE LAST YEAR THE SQUIRRELS CAME AND DUG UP EVERY SINGLE SEED!!!

ADAM FROM SPARROW CLASS SPENT MUCH THOUGHT AND CARE MAKING A (LEVEL!) BENCH FOR THE TEDDIES ON THE TREE HOUSE, WELL DONE ADAM, I THINK THAT THEY LOVE THE VIEW FROM UP THERE!

HAVING FUN IN THE ARMY TENTS!!

SOME OF OUR LOVELY YEAR 6 BOYS MADE SOME WILDFLOWER SEED POPPERS TODAY AND WE HAVE THROWN THEM AROUND ON THE SLOPE BY WOODLAND SCHOOL!

WE HAVE SEEN THE JAY IN WOODLAND SCHOOL EVERYDAY THIS TERM! LOOK OUT FOR THE DISTINCTIVE TURQUOISE BLUE FLASH ON THE WING...

SOME CHILDREN FROM YEAR 5 COMPLETED THE ARMY TENT CHALLENGE THIS MORNING. SUPER TEAMWORK WAS EVIDENT, WELL DONE EVERYONE!

IT IS WORLD EARTH DAY ON 22ND APRIL. THE THEME FOR 2024 IS "PLANET VS PLASTIC" PERHAPS YOU COULD PICK UP PLASTIC LITTER IN YOUR STREET OR YOU COULD CHOSE ONLY TO BUY PRODUCTS WITH NO PLASTIC PACKAGING TODAY.

DEN AND SHELTER BUILDING WITH BADGER AND HEDGEHOG CLASS. YOU DID A GREAT JOB EVERYONE, WELL DONE!

CHILDREN FROM DRAGONFLY AND LADYBIRD MADE THESE SPRING BIRDS, USING WOOL THEN WEAVING LEAVES AND FLOWERS UNDER THE WOOL.

WE FOUND A DEAD BUMBLEBEE SO WE WERE ABLE TO HAVE A VERY GOOD LOOK AT IT, WITH A MAGNIFYING GLASS.

A BEAUTIFUL ...AND VERY FRIENDLY...SPECKLED WOOD BUTTERFLY IN WOODLAND SCHOOL TODAY!

YEAR 6 COMPLETED THE RSPB NATURAL COLOURS CHALLENGE THIS AFTERNOON, WE FOUND SO MANY DIFFERENT NATURAL COLURS IN AND AROUND WOODLAND SCHOOL!

WE HAVE RECEIVED SOME BABY PLANTS TO GROW ON FROM THE MARGATE VOLUNTARY GROUP "WILDERNESS TO WONDERLAND". WE WILL GROW THEM ON AND THEN TAKE THEM TO THE FLOWER BEDS NEAR MARGATE STATION IN JUNE TO BE PLANTED UP.

WE HAVE WEEDED THE STRAWBERRY BED TODAY AND THE STRAWBERRIES ARE GROWING NICELY!

ALFIE HAS PLANTED SEED POTATOES TODAY. THEY SHOULD BE READY TO HARVEST IN JUNE. WE WILL MAKE POTATO SALAD WITH THEM!

WOODLAND SCHOOL TRIP TO DANE VALLEY WOODS!! HTSJ WERE INVITED TO PLANT A NEW HEDGE BY THE TEAM AT DANE VALLEY WOODS. WE PLANTED 45 BABY TREES AND IT WAS EXCELLENT FUN!

HTSJ SCHOOL IS NOW AN ASSOCIATE MEMBER OF THE BRITISH BEEKEEPERS ASSOCIATION. WATCH THIS SPACE FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT HOW WE CAN LOOK AFTER BEES!

SOME CHILDREN FROM YEAR 3 MADE SOME SUPER SHELTERS USING THE DD TARPS, BUNGEE STRAPS, TENT PEGS AND MALLETS.

SOME CHILDREN FROM YEAR 4 COLLECTED STICKS AND USED THEM TO 'WRITE' THEIR NAMES.

HOT SOUP AND GOOD COMPANY HELPED TO KEEP YEAR 4 WARM ON A VERY COLD AND GREY JANUARY AFTERNOON!!

A VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE IN OUR HTSJ COMMUNITY WITH LOTS OF LOVE FROM ALL OUR FURRY AND FEATHERY FRIENDS IN WOODLAND SCHOOL.

DECEMBER 2023

HERE IS OUR WILDLIFE RECORD BOARD FOR DECEMBER.

WE HAVE BEEN GIFTED 4 BAT BOXES AND 6 BIRD BOXES BY THE WOODLAND TRUST. THIS IS A PRIZE FOR ACHIEVING THE GOLD "GREEN TREE SCHOOL" AWARD. ALFIE HAS ALREADY ASSEMBLED THE FIRST ONE!

ALFIE AND HARIJS FROM YEAR 1 HELPED TO MAKE THESE BIRD FAT CAKES. WE MELTED SOME SUET IN A PAN OVER THE CAMP FIRE THEN WE STIRRED IN SOME BIRD SEED AND GAVE IT A STIR WITH A STICK. THEN THE BOYS SPOONED THE MXTURE INTO SOME YOGURT POTS. WHEN THEY ARE SET WE WILL PUT THEM OUT FOR THE BIRDS TO EAT.

THE 4TH DECEMBER IS WORLD TREE DRESSING DAY! SOME CHILDREN FROM YEAR 5 DECORATED A TREE WITH POM-POMS, WOVEN WOOL HANGINGS, A GARLAND AND RIBBON. TREES ARE SO IMPORTANT TO OUR LIVES !
