Woodland School Leader

 

Mrs Chantler is a Primary School teacher and is a Forest School Association qualified Level 3 Forest School Leader.

 

We have an award winning provision in our Woodland School. In 2022 we were awarded the Bronze, Silver and Gold RSPB awards, for the work we do to look after nature.

In July 2022 we were awarded the Kent Wildlife Trust (KWT) Bronze Wildlife award.

In July 2023, right at the end of the summer term, we were awarded the Kent Wildlife Trust Gold Wildlife Award!

WOODEN SPOON PUPPETS! SOME CHILDREN FROM YEAR 5 MADE THESE WOODEN SPOON PUPPETS, ESPECIALLY FOR YEAR R TO PLAY WITH IN THE AFTERNOON! WELL DONE EVERYONE!

YEAR 1 HAVE BEEN LEARNING ABOUT BRITISH GARDEN BIRDS IN TIME FOR THE RSPB "BIG GARDEN BIRD WATCH" THIS WEEKEND. WE MADE COLLAGES OF GREENFINCHES USING NATURAL MATERIALS AND WE LEARNT THAT GREENFINCHES HAVE GREEN, YELLOW AND GREY FEATHERS.

WOODLAND SCHOOL TRIP TO DANE VALLEY WOODS!! HTSJ WERE INVITED TO PLANT A NEW HEDGE BY THE TEAM AT DANE VALLEY WOODS. WE PLANTED 45 BABY TREES AND IT WAS EXCELLENT FUN!

HERE IS OUR WILDLIFE RECORD BOARD FOR DECEMBER.

WE HAVE BEEN GIFTED 4 BAT BOXES AND 6 BIRD BOXES BY THE WOODLAND TRUST. THIS IS A PRIZE FOR ACHIEVING THE GOLD "GREEN TREE SCHOOL" AWARD. ALFIE HAS ALREADY ASSEMBLED THE FIRST ONE!

ALFIE AND HARIJS FROM YEAR 1 HELPED TO MAKE THESE BIRD FAT CAKES. WE MELTED SOME SUET IN A PAN OVER THE CAMP FIRE THEN WE STIRRED IN SOME BIRD SEED AND GAVE IT A STIR WITH A STICK. THEN THE BOYS SPOONED THE MXTURE INTO SOME YOGURT POTS. WHEN THEY ARE SET WE WILL PUT THEM OUT FOR THE BIRDS TO EAT.

THE 4TH DECEMBER IS WORLD TREE DRESSING DAY! SOME CHILDREN FROM YEAR 5 DECORATED A TREE WITH POM-POMS, WOVEN WOOL HANGINGS, A GARLAND AND RIBBON. TREES ARE SO IMPORTANT TO OUR LIVES !

YEAR 1 MADE THE SMALL CHERRY TREE (IN THE GARDEN) INTO A WISHING TREE. HINDU CHILDREN DO THIS IN INDIA, TIEING THEIR WISHES ONTO A BANYAN TREE. EVERYONE IN YEAR 1 WROTE A WISH ON A LEAF AND WE TIED ALL THE WISHED TO THE CHERRY TREE. I WONDER IF THEY WILL COME TRUE?!

IN READINESS FOR WORLD TREE DECORATING DAY IN DECEMBER, ALFIE FROM OSPREY HAS MADE THIS HANGING DECOARTION, USING WOOL.

IVY BERRIES ARE AN IMPORTANT SOURCE OF FOOD FOR BIRDS SUCH AS BLACKBIRDS AT THIS TIME OF YEAR.

ABRA-CA-DABRA! LOOK AT YEAR 2'S MAGIC WANDS, JUST IN TIME FOR HALLOWEEN! WOOOOHHHHH!

YEAR 5 TRIP TO BLEAN WOODS NEAR CANTERBURY. ON 19TH OCTOBER SOME CHILDREN FROM OSPREY AND KESTREL WENT TO BLEAN WOODS FOR THE DAY.

DRAGONFLY CLASS AND LADYBIRD CLASS HAD THEIR VERY FIRST TREASURE HUNT TODAY! THERE WERE 5 CLUES WHICH EACH LED TO A CHARACTER FROM THE PERCY THE PARK KEEPER STORY.

EPIC APPLE PIE! AUTUMN IS A GOOD TIME FOR HOME-MADE APPLE PIE. ALFIE PICKED THE APPLES AT SCHOOL TO MAKE THE FILLING AND THEN HE MADE THIS WONDERFUL PIE WHICH WAS ALL EATEN UP BY SOME LUCKY TEACHERS AND SOME YEAR 5 CHILDREN! YUMMY!

YEAR 1 DID THE THREE LITTLE PIGS CHALLENGE TODAY, WITH SOME OF OUR PARENTS TOO! WE HAD TO MAKE A HOUSE OF STICKS FOR THE SECOND LITTLE PIG! THERE WERE SOME EXCELLENT IDEAS!

RENESMEE AND EMMANUEL FOUND THESE MACRO MUSHROOMS IN WOODLAND SCHOOL TODAY!

DRAGONFLY CLASS AND LADYBIRD CLASS MET THE WOODLAND FAIRIES! THEY ENJOYED BUILDING FAIRY HOUSES FOR THEM TO LIVE IN.

SOME CHILDREN FROM YEAR 5 MADE BREAD DOUGH AND THEN WRAPPED THE DOUGH AROUND A STICK AND COOKED IT OVER THE CAMPFIRE. IT WAS DELICIOUS!

SOME CHILDREN FROM YEAR 5 CHOSE TO BUILD AND USE A PUPPET THEATRE TODAY.

A COLLARED DOVE NEST HAS BLOWN DOWN FROM A TREE IN WOODLAND SCHOOL. COLLARED DOVES ARE NOT VERY GOOD AT MAKING NESTS! IT JUST LOOKS LIKE A POOEY PILE OF STICKS!

TEDDY OBSTACLE COURSE CHALLENGE! It was lovely to welcome some of our Year 1 parents to join us for the afternoon sessions. We worked together to build an obstacle course for a teddy to use. It had to have something to go over, under, through and have a surprise at the end. This activity idea came from the Learning Through Landscapes website, which has lots of ideas for outdoor learning and activities that you might like to try at home too!

HARVEY IN YEAR 3 HAS SEEN A FOX IN OUR SCHOOL GROUNDS THIS WEEK. THERE IS A FOX DEN AT THE BACK OF WOODLAND SCHOOL AND ONE BY THE CAR PARK.
