PE and Sport

Our pupils receive one hour of curriculum PE per week throughout both EYFS and Key Stage 1 & 2. This is taught by Mr Williams, a qualified teacher and primary PE specialist.

We endeavour to provide all children with positive, inclusive and meaningful early experiences around physical activity that will help them to be physically confident and lead active, healthy lifestyles in and out of school.

Lessons are designed to encourage high levels of engagement and enjoyment for all children  with a focus on the use of modified games and themes of learning instead of traditional blocks of sport specific activities.

Children take part in competitive sport in after school clubs and during regular participation in a range of fixtures, festivals and tournaments provided by the Thanet Primary Association for School Sport.

We use specially designed units of work called ‘learning themes’ that are linked to the PE National Curriculum. These are provided by our scheme of work partners ‘BEYOND THE PHYSICAL’.

Each Learning Theme is centred around three key words, which are the success criteria for the unit. For example: 'LOOK, RUN, AVOID'

Children will cover these learning themes with a focus on one key word for a minimum of two lessons and videos are shared with the children before each lesson to show what we are going to do.

The lessons are adapted through the regular use of the STEP principle as an approach to adapt the learning activity to meet the needs of the children in front of them.

These adaptations are purposeful, building upon previously acquired skills, allowing children to develop their abilities gradually and consistently to gain some element of mastery in what they are learning.

By using this approach it allows all children to access the learning at the level that is right for them. For example, they can take ownership of which size ball to use or how big to make their playing area, whatever is appropriate for them at that moment in time.

SUPER SATURDAY! - THANET PRIMARY SCHOOLS' YR6 FOOTBALL COMPETITION

On Saturday 12th October, a squad of footballers from Year 6 took part in the annual 'Super Saturday' competition involving over 30 teams from across Thanet. On a rainy morning, the HTSJ team battled hard and managed to perform well against all the teams they played. We won some matches and lost a few but the children should be proud of their efforts across the whole morning especially as for many players this was their first experience of a football competition environment. Well done everybody!

THANET PRIMARY SCHOOLS' CROSS COUNTRY

On Saturday 5th October, children from Year 3-6 took part in the races involving hundreds of children from schools across the area. Each HTSJ participant gave it their all and fully deserved their hard earned medals. Well done to everyone who took part!

DW CUP FINALS - UKS2 GIRLS FOOTBALL

On Thursday 3rd October, the HTSJ school team took part in the finals of the DW Cup at Ramsgate FC.

The girls performed brilliantly and they should be extremely proud of their performance and positive attitude they showed throughout. They drew both of their matches and showed great resilience and perseverance to come back from losing positions in each match.

They finished 2nd overall in the competition which is an amazing achievement for them to be officially one of the top teams in the Thanet area. WELL DONE, GIRLS!
