Project Learning (Humanities, DT and The Arts)

Humanities

The national curriculum has been used as a planning framework to structure objectives progressively from Year 1 to 6. Units have been designed so that objectives can be linked and learning sequenced appropriately. Teachers design a learning journey using medium term plans to ensure the curriculum offers a range of memorable learning opportunities. Over the year, pupils will cover History and Geography learning through projects that our teachers have chosen specifically for our children. Below is a link to the History National Curriculum and the Geography National Curriculum where you will be able to find the subject content that each year group will cover.

Significant Historical Dates and Events

Throughout the year, our school celebrates important historical dates and events. These include, Remembrance Day, Black History, VE Day, Women's History, and more. To commemorate these important dates and events, year groups will spend time focusing their learning around the events, they may create pieces of work that will be displayed around the school or in our local community, we have special visitors or trips out into the community or we may have themed learning days in school where the children dress accordingly.

It is important that we have time to learn about these significant historical events and think about the impact they have had on our lives, our countries and our communities. Photos of our school commemorating these days will be uploaded over the year on this page, please have a look.

If you would like to know more, or feel you would like to get involved, please feel free to contact us via the school email and you will be directed to the right person.

Local History Study

This year, the Key Stage 2 children will be completing a two week local History study, based around Margate and the surrounding areas. Each year group will take a trip out of school to a part of our community, learning about the History of our town and how this has had an impact and changed it over the years.

Year 3 will be focusing on Dreamland with a visit to the seafront

Year 4 will be focusing on Margate town and going to Margate Museum

Year 5 will be focusing on Margate train station over the years

Year 6 will be focusing on WWII, linking to their 'Keep Calm and Carry On' project, with a visit to the Ramsgate Tunnels.

More information on this will be uploaded soon.
