The theme for World Bee Day 2025 is "Bee inspired by nature to nourish us all". This theme highlights the vital roles bees and other pollinators play in ecosystem restoration, biodiversity conservation, and food security and nutrition. The day aims to raise awareness about the threats to pollinators and promote actions for their protection.

To help celebrate and support bees on World Bee Day 2025, you can:

1. Plant Bee-Friendly Flowers and Plants:

  • Choose native plants: Native plants are adapted to the local climate and are often preferred by native bees.
  • Plant a variety: Offer bees a diverse range of nectar and pollen sources throughout the year.
  • Examples of bee-friendly plants: Lavender, sunflowers, marigolds, foxgloves, daisies, and red clover.

2. Avoid Pesticides:

  • Harmful effects: Pesticides can be toxic to bees and other beneficial insects.
  • Opt for organic gardening: Use natural pest control methods and organic gardening practices.

3. Support Local Beekeepers:

  • Purchase honey and bee products: Support sustainable beekeeping practices and local businesses.
  • Look for local honey: Choose honey from beekeepers in your area.

4. Create Bee Habitats:

  • Bee hotels: Provide shelter for solitary bees with bee hotels made from dead wood, hollow stems, and piles of leaves.
  • Bee baths: Offer bees a place to drink with a shallow dish of water and pebbles.
  • Leave areas wild: Allow some areas of your garden to go unmanaged, creating natural habitats for bees.

5. Educate Yourself and Others:

  • Share information: Spread awareness about the importance of bees and how to protect them.
  • Learn about pollination: Understand how bees play a vital role in food production and ecosystems.

6. Advocate for Change:

  • Support pollinator-friendly policies: Encourage your local and state governments to protect pollinators and their habitats.
  • Sign petitions: Support organizations working to protect bees and their environment

Hedgehog Awareness Week 2025 runs from May 4th to 10th. This year's theme is "Give Hedgehogs the Edge!" encouraging people to create wildlife-friendly spaces, particularly on the edges of gardens and green spaces. The focus is on letting these areas grow wild, providing shelter and food for hedgehogs.

  • Goal: Raise awareness and support for hedgehog conservation.
  • Dates: May 4th - 10th, 2025.
  • Theme: "Give Hedgehogs the Edge!".
  • Action: Encourage people to let garden edges grow wild, creating wildlife-friendly havens.

How to participate:

  • Spread the word about the campaign and the importance of hedgehogs.
  • Consider making your garden a hedgehog-friendly haven.
  • Leave out water and food (avoid milk, as it's not good for them).
  • Create safe passage between gardens by leaving small gaps in fences.
  • Support hedgehog conservation efforts through donations to organizations like the British Hedgehog Preservation Society

    TERM 1

This term, we have been exploring all things Autumn. Years 1 & 2 created some snails using clay and conkers, Year 5 have enjoyed cooking hot dogs on the fire and others enjoyed making lavender bags to take home. We have all enjoyed exploring the woodland site and using the loose parts section to create different animal habitats. In the last week of term, every class had an opportunity to come to Woodland School and enjoy a scavenger hunt activity which was enjoyed by all.

    Term 1 Fun

    SCARECROW!

Our Tuesday morning group decided we needed a new scarecrow, so we gathered all the resources we needed and got to work. I think it looks fantastic and is a great addition to our allotment.

    TOASTING MARSHMALLOWS

Year 5 have been showing me their fantastic knowledge of fire safety and how we safely toast marshmallows on the fire.

    MUD KITCHEN!

Our new mud kitchen has arrived, we cannot wait for you all to explore and show us your muddy creations.

    TERM 2

This term started with us creating some poppy dragon eyes for remembrance which were then put with our display at the front of the school. KS1 and KS2 each made a Christmas wreath to display at our local church. There were lots of Christmas mud recipes being created in the mud kitchen and years 5 & 6 extended their cooking skills by cooking pizzas on the fire.

In the last week of term, all classes came up to Woodland School where they made wood cookie Christmas decorations to take home and also toasted spiced apple slices on the fire.

    TERM 3

This term we are taking part in the RSPB Big Schools Birdwatch. We have been busy building bird nest boxes and making birdfeeders using pine cones. If you would like to take part at home please follow the link below.
